Ready to face the week!

We've had a fantastic weekend and FINALLY some snow made it down our way! Here is my oldest building some character clearing the drive way!

Do your children have any regular chores they do?

Last week we were invited to attend the "wax museum" presented by Mr. Dunaway's 5th graders. They had researched historical figures and they were fantastic sharing what they'd learned. (I was blown away with them and our kids!) First graders walked the hallway pressing "buttons" on the figures hands and they would "come to life" and share the story of their character!

Remember, we will have the same spelling words until Feb 7th! This gives the students two full weeks to learn this skill!

Snow Day #724

Well, here I sit, awaiting the snow that is to keep me away from those babies again today! I'm sure we'll enjoy school in mid July. :) Do you think the kids would learn well pool side?

Due to the snow day- I'm sure our second quarter awards will be rescheduled, I'll keep you posted as to when that is. We will also need to make up our spelling test. We will do that on Tuesday. PLEASE make sure your students keep studying their words over the long weekend. They were READY for this spelling test today, and I don't want a lack of focus over this long weekend to hurt their grades. :)

Remember, there is no school Monday in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Enjoy this time off, but please, keep learning at home. This is such a critical point in the year where we cross that point of first grade work, to preparation for second grade skills. Keep working hard!!!

But in all honestly, teachers do love snow days just as much as the kids. :)

Winter Wisdom!

Good Morning!

I'm gearing up for our first full week back from Winter Break. I've spent my morning cleaning house and stealing snuggles from these two crazy boys here at home. How was your weekend? (Feel free to comment below!)

This week we will continue our study about weather and objects in the sky. Remember, spelling words will remain the SAME as last week! We will test over these words on Friday. Study hard!

Please make sure your child is completing math and spelling homework each night. Homework completion and good behavior are the tickets to attend Fun Friday each Friday afternoon!

We've add some adjustments to our reading and math centers this week and it's working out quite nicely!

Ask your child about what they've been learning, and post comments below! Have a great Sunday and I'll see everyone tomorrow.

(See previous post for this weeks spelling words!)

Happy New Year!!!

Well our break is coming to an end. I've enjoyed these past two weeks getting snuggles with my boys and spending the holidays with friends and family! Here are my fellas just a few days before Christmas!

I'm most certainly ready to get back in our classroom and hear about all the exciting things our 24 friends have done over break.

I've been busy planning some fun new things for when we return. We will have new reading groups, and our spelling is going to look a little different also. I am posting our spelling words below and these words will be the SAME FOR TWO WEEKS. These words are directly aligned with the skill they are working on in reading and I want to be SURE they understand the skill, and master it. Therefore, we will focus on them for TWO  weeks. The spelling test for these words will be January 17th. They should still do homework each night, and they will receive new January spelling choice menus when we return this week. The words with stars are bonus words. Good luck!

We will also begin our study of weather this month. It should be interesting, as weather should be a hot topic this month with all the exciting forecast coming our way!

We will also MAP test again near the end of this month. This will tell us how much they have grown since they took the test in the Fall. I can't wait to see how their scores improve.

Please be aware this week is going to be FRIGID!!! If your little one waits for the bus, PLEASE ensure they are bundled up head to toe!!!

I'm looking forward to seeing all my babies tomorrow. It always seems first graders have a growth spurt over these short 2 weeks of Winter break. I can't wait for hugs and smiles tomorrow!!!
