Parent Teacher Conferences

As most of you know, on Monday a form was sent home with your child so that you could request a conference time with me on Monday, October 29th.

If I received this form I have returned in with your child's exact conference time. If you did not receive this, or need to request a time, please e mail me at Leeann.yonker@hardin.kyschools.us for your time!

To prepare for our conference, the school has provided the following document for parents that you may want to look over to help you come up with questions you may have about your student. Please feel free to use it!!

Have a great afternoon!

We have only one week until Fall Break! This week we will continue studying living and non-living by taking a closer look at food chains and life cycles.

Last week you may remember seeing information about our upcoming fall festival. First grade will be selling chances to win a grocery cart FULL of groceries. Please send in any unwanted canned goods or other non perishable grocery items (such as boxed food, paper goods, etc.) to school with your child any time this week or up until October 9th! The class who brings the most items will receive a Popcorn party!

Thanks again for your support. The money we raise at Fall Festival will be used for class trips or other activities.

Have a great week!!!

In Honor...

Today the whole school had a celebration to recognize Patriots Day, and Constitution Day as well as pay tribute to those effected by 9/11.

Our first grade friends have been learning about American Symbols the past two weeks, and boy did they learn a lot!!! Ask them about their favorite American symbol.

Enjoy your extra long weekend. No school for students Monday, September 17!

Lovin' every minute!!

My 28 firsties are some really fab kiddos!!

We've really been working hard in small groups this week. Please make sure you are reminding out little tots to do their spelling homework. (You can look under the spelling tab here on the blog to see what they should be doing each night.)

On Friday we had an assembly for our schools FRC fundraiser. If students fill out the address booklet and send it back this week, your child will receive a prize penguin. When selling the cookie dough, after your child sales 2 items cut out and send in the ticket for your child to earn another penguin. Do the same for the other tickets on this page. This fundraiser is for our schools Family Resource Center which does so much for our school! Please help you child be a successful seller. Prizes for items sold are available as well!!!

Finally, this is a photo of some of our friends at Fridays assembly. Nothing sweeter than all my 28 kiddos. Thanks for sharing your little ones with me!

Ready Freddy!!!

Our first full week was a success! We continued to work on our classroom procedures and routines.

We also learned how our small group reading centers will go. We will begin those this coming week. We also had some very successful math centers on Friday as well! I was very proud of all of my students! They were learning and working very hard!!

This week we will begin discussing citizens and communities. Discuss with your child how they can work to be a good citizen.

First week in the books!!!

We had a fantastic first week back at school!

This week we will be working on learning our reading centers and assessing different reading skills.

We will also begin our first round of spelling word this week. These words are simple kindergarten words to help the students learn how to do their homework each night. Look under the spelling tab at the top of this page for more information.

We will also take our first trip to the library on Tuesday afternoon where Mr. Farmer will show us how to check out library books.

We're looking forward to a great week! Don't forget if your child does not have an agenda they need one as soon as possible. They can be purchased in the office for $3.00.

Have a great weekend!

Welcome to First Grade

Hidy Ho! Welcome to first grade!!!

My name is Mrs. Yonker and I'm thrilled to have your child in class this year.

This is my first year at Woodland, but my fourth year teaching. I live in Horse Cave, which is about an hour south of Radcliff. I've previously taught second, fifth, and sixth grade in Hart County. I am married to my wonderful husband, Russ, and we have one son, Aaron who is eight.

This blog will be used to keep you up to date on things happening in our classroom, special events, assignments and much more. I hope you come back often to see what we're up to!
