Spring break is in sight!!!

This is our last week until Spring Break! I can't believe we're here already!

This week was a wild and fun week!

That pesky leprechaun made a MESS of our room and no one caught him!!!

We also had a great time at the Jr. Beta after school dance!

We will have our spelling test this Friday, as well as finish our unit on Life Cycles and animal groups. We have been learning about point of view this past week, and to finish up we will be presenting our play of "The three little wolves as the big bad pig" on Friday morning at 8:00 am!

Also, don't forget about the first grade performance of "My Many Colored Days" Thursday evening at 6:00. The students have been working VERY hard to learn all their parts!

Here's to another fantastic week!

Happy St. Patty's Day!!,

Well I suppose St. Patrick decided we deserved yet another snow day today!

We will do all of our St. Patricks Day activities on Tuesday & Wednesday this week. Your child may bring in their traps tomorrow and we will "set" them before we go home!

Here are the new spelling words for the next two weeks and we will test on these words March 28th, that will also be our last day before Spring Break which begins March 31st!!!

I hope you enjoy your snow day today! I will see everyone tomorrow. :)

In like a lion?

There's an old saying; if March comes in like a lion, it goes out like a lamb. I hope all that sleet and snow was considered lioness, and we're in for some nice spring weather!

Spelling words will remain the same this week, and we're going to squeeze in some of our Read Across America activities that we missed as well. We'll also be taking a look at some insect life cycles as well.

As a reward for crossing off all the letters on our attendance board (when we have 100% we get to mark off a letter) all the students received their very own glow stick as a reward for being present so many days.

Keep up the good work!

Uh oh! Someone forgot to turn off the snow!

Howdy!

Well this weekend, and snow day have been quite productive! We have more snow here today than probably all winter combined! I tried to get a measurement, but the sleet is so thick our tape measure won't go through it! :(

Here's what it looks like in Horse Cave.

My yard trinkets are drowning in snow...

Drifts on the back patio- sure like that pool ladder much better IN the pool and not in a foot of snow!

It appears we're not alone... Every county in the ENTIRE state had a snow day today!!!

For when we do get back to the learning game we'll be busy, busy, busy! We're (planning) to celebrate Read Across America week this week with lots of fun Dr. Seuss activities, continue learning about geometry in Math, and begin our unit on Life Cycles. Here are our new spelling words for the next two weeks. Study now while you have time. :)

A sip of spring!!!

Good Morning! I hope everyone has had a great weekend!

This past week we all worked very hard to continue our learning about BLack History events. We will finish our lap books over black history tomorrow, as well as work on comparing stories on the same event. We're focusing in the events surrounding Mrs. Rosa Parks and the bus sit-ins.

We continue this week with THE SAME spelling words, and we will test on them Friday. Keep studying!

This past week Mrs. Hobbs second grade class was gracious to invite us to their room to view their readers theatre about famous presidents this past week.

Some of you may know Mrs. Yonker was out Thursday and Friday for Jr. Beta convention in Lousiville. Here are a few snapshots of our two days in Louisville.

It has been a beautiful weekend, Aaon and I enjoyed a Popsicle on the patio during Jace's nap yesterday! I hope you had a chance to take in some of this glorious weather! Spring is just around the corner!

Happy Sunday everyone! See you tomorrow!

Making some progress!

I'd like to begin this weeks post by saying a big thank you to those of you who attended, or sent items for our Valentine party! The kids had a great time exchanging Valentines and enjoying our treats Friday!

This month we are studying Black History, as well as completing our computer based research- yes, first graders are asked to do some research using computers! These little tykes are some smart cookies!

Just a reminder, I will be out of the building on Thrusday and Friday to attend Jr. Beta convention in Louisville with our fifth graders. Mrs. Marr will be filling in for me. She is a retired teacher from Woodland and has some fun activities planned for our friends.

Here are the new spelling words, please remember, we are keeping our spelling words now for TWO weeks, so we will test on these words February 28th! The skills the kids are working on are also listed so you'll have a better understanding of what exactly they need to know!
